Second National Workshop 2026 of the GMN II Project
“Advancing Maritime Sustainability in Ecuador: Energy Transition, Technology and Innovation for an Efficient Maritime Sector Prepared for the Future”

  9 and 10 July 2026

Hotel DoubleTree by Hilton Guayaquil, Ecuador

The transition towards sustainable maritime transport drives competitiveness and innovation in the sector. At the same time, maritime decarbonization requires strategic cooperation, joint action, and innovative solutions to build a more sustainable future.

In this context, MTCC Latin America, within the framework of the GMN Phase II Project, implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and funded by the European Union (EU), in collaboration with the International Maritime University of Panama (UMIP) and the Ecuadorian Navy through the National Directorate of Aquatic Spaces (DIRNEA), is pleased to announce the Second National Workshop of the GMN Phase II Project, entitled "Advancing Maritime Sustainability in Ecuador: Energy Transition, Technology and Innovation for an Efficient and Future-Ready Maritime Sector." The workshop will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on 9–10 July 2026, commencing at 09:00 a.m. (Guayaquil Local Time).

The workshop aims to strengthen national capacities to accelerate the transition towards a more energy-efficient and low-carbon maritime transport sector. It will bring together a broad range of maritime stakeholders, including government authorities, industry representatives, academia, environmental organizations, and international experts, to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and promote practical solutions for advancing maritime decarbonization.

Key topics:

  • Explore innovative strategies to reduce GHG emissions in line with global climate objectives.

  • Advance the decarbonization of maritime transport in Ecuador, focusing on practical technological solutions for energy efficiency and alternative fuels.

  • Identify financing opportunities for sustainable projects.

  • Promote gender equality in maritime energy efficiency initiatives.

GMN Phase II Project aims to continue promoting energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the maritime sector, particularly in developing countries. Led by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the project builds on the success achieved during Phase I by strengthening the capacity of the Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres (MTCCs) across five regions. In this context, MTCC Latin America plays an important role in promoting energy-efficient technologies and operational practices, supporting the development of policies aligned with IMO decarbonization objectives, and facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange among maritime stakeholders worldwide.

This national workshop in Ecuador forms part of the GMN Phase II Project commitment to promoting energy efficiency and the decarbonization of maritime transport, in alignment with the IMO 2023 GHG Strategy.

Do not miss this opportunity to be part of the change and contribute together to a sustainable and inclusive future for the maritime sector in Ecuador and across the Latin American region.
